General description

This is a survey of bright points (beacons) with extreme intensities in the transition region, first discovered by SPICE (Fludra et al. 2021). The goal is to detect more of these events for statistical studies, to characterise their evolution and thermal and magnetic properties, and establish the connection to coronal bright points. These measurements will help explain the formation and heating of bright points on small spatial scales, from the transition region to the corona. 

Default SOOP duration: minimum 6 hours, but can be profitably run for up to 12 hours.

Pointing requirements: Any pointing on quiet Sun disk within +/- 30 degrees from disk centre is useful. Larger off-points reduce the spatial resolution and are progressively less useful.

- 6 hours of FSI174 at 10min cadence

- 6 hours of FSI304 at 60min cadence


PHI

Standard observing programme of the day is usually OK.

An ideal scenario would be:

HiRes & Full Disk

PHI_HRT_NOM_0: HRT nominal mode at 1-2 minute cadence for 1-2 hours (same time interval as EUI HRI).

Full disk at 30 min cadence for rest of the time.
