slow wind connection science: RS-IS connection mosaic L_SMALL_MRES_MCAD_Connection-Mosaic | All | Alessandra Giunta, Natalia Prado, Don Hassler & the Connection Mosaic SOOP WG | Connection mosaic scheduled on first day RSW1 (2 March) - still Metis compatible. Could be repeated again at end RSW3 (without Metis). PHI Full disk is enough. | 2022-03-02 to 03 (27h): First instance in RSW1 scheduled, based on input in Connection_Mosaic_slides_for_SWT_24jun21_UPDATED.pptx 2022-03-30 to 31 (27h): 2nd instance on 30 March updated to 27 hrs duration and modes updated based on input in slides above (without Metis).
slow wind connection science: source tracking L_SMALL_HRES_HCAD_Slow-Wind-Connection | SWA, SPICE | DStephanie Yardley. Stansby | ~ 5 days | L_SMALL_HRES_HCAD_Slow-Wind-Connection scheduled in RSW1, before and after cross-calibration with Earth A better opportunity closer to the Sun are the 5 days at start RSW2. We can still use Earth observations to help us with the connection modelling. | 2022-03-03 to 06 (72h): First instance scheduled for RS instruments, except for Metis (incompatible with pointing away from disc centre from 2022-03-03T03:00:00). 2022-03-17 to 22 (6h short of 5 days): Second instance scheduled for RS instruments execept Metis, with slightly higher TM requirements. Reference input: Slow wind SOOP plan.pdf |
high-cadence coronal dynamics L_FULL_HRES_HCAD_Coronal-Dynamics | EUI | D. Spadaro, A. Vourlidas | In RSW2+3, for now we scheduled 5 days of offpointing to target + 10 days of disk-centre pointing + 5 days of offpointing to target
nanoflares R_BOTH_HRES_HCAD_Nanoflares | EUI | D. Berghmans, S. Parenti | In RSW2+3, for now we scheduled 5 days of offpointing to target + 10 days of disk-centre pointing + 5 days of offpointing to target | 2022-03-17 (3h): Quiet Sun, 2022-03-17 (3h): Active region at intermediate angle, Both with single cadence for EUI, other observations as per 2022-03-07/08 with the SOOP lasting for 30 minutes in each case. 2022-03-30 (6h): Active region, 30 minutes of observations without FSI, as per SWT_LTP06_Nano_Coords.pdf.
high-res imaging of a polar coronal hole | A. Zhukov | min 2 hours | Idea is to point to the limb, with SPICE slit also covering off-limb corona above the coronal hole. Ideally close to perihelion to take advantage of the higher resolution. | 2022-03-07 05:30 (3h) with shorter duration EUI/PHI high-res observations (30mins) 2022-03-30 06:00 (3h) with shorter duration EUI/PHI high-res observations (20mins) 2022-04-04 09:00 (39h) with shorter duration EUI/PHI high-res observations (13h20m) SOOP instances have been added based on the input provided in SOOP_polar_AZhukov_20210621.pdf and EUI input https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JE7MARnnZMg9--EgY_1bdJ7UultPOhd-zPMRELSgc2k

<follow solar region on disk for a long time, e.g. AR (>2 weeks)> | PHI | Luis Bellot (PHI) in coord with D. Berghmans (EUI) and M. Janvier (SPICE) |
From input received from RSWG and SOOP coordinators, the SOOP will be run at the end of RSW2+3 (starting 31 March) and instead of AR dynamics, a TM-lighter soop will be used: R_SMALL_MRES_MCAD_AR-Long-Term Science goals: monitor AR continuously for 4 days to: study AR decay, AR properties from 2 different vantage points, and sources slow solar wind. Coordinate with Earth telescopes to extend AR coverage by a few days pVSTP needed | 2022-03-31T12:00 to 2022-04-04T09:00 (3d 21h): Original placeholder SOOP (AR-Dynamics) has been replaced by R_SMALL_MRES_MCAD_AR-Long-Term, as requested by SOOP coordinator in R_SMALL_MRES_MCAD_AR-Long-Term_plans_lbellot.pdf. Note that SOOP starts later than requested in the slides because the connection mosaic preceding it has been extended to last 27h, as requested by F. Auchere. Observation details have been added based on details in presentation above and spreadsheet EUI.
<look at AR near west limb around perihelion to connect with PSP> | A. Vourlidas | A. Vourlidas | if we follow an AR in RSW2+3, choosing one on the West side of the Sun could be useful for connection science with PSP (note PSP will be rather far away) Note: tradeoff with staying disk centred at quadrature => SWT agrees it would be more favourable to stay at disk centre during quadrature with Earth (= 29 March). Coordinate with Earth assets. | N/A multiple day AR following is scheduled for end RSW2+3, see row above
support PSP perihelion in Feb | A. Zhukov | proposal to use SPICE OOF calibration = 3 hours at east limb or west limb. Note despite the name of the SOOP in SOOP Kitchen, this campaign is not just for SPICE but also for other instruments. The campaign described in Solar Orbiter SPICE Out-Of-Field Calibration is just being used to request the out of RSW manoeuvres to Flight Dynamics. The instrument contributions can be added on the timeline as needed. 2 offpointings requested and scheduled: to East limb on Feb 23, to West limb on Feb 27 | 2022-02-22 (3h): at East limb,
2022-02-26 (3h): at West limb,

AR tracking close to perihelion | In RSW2+3, for now we scheduled 5 days of offpointing to target + 10 days of disk-centre pointing + 5 days of offpointing to target
Cross-calibration with Earth assets, pointing to particular targets (e.g. sunspots/ARs/limb/...) | Marco Romoli RSWG + cross-calibration WG | COORD_CALIBRATION with Earth observatories has been scheduled 4-8 March Ideally targetted pointing. If not feasible, a predefined mosaic may work as well. Full disk mosaic would be great for outreach too (to be calculated how long that would take). | See above. |
